On March 2, 1900, Holland Rowe Jones passed away in the community of Zorah, Craven County. She lived in Blounts Creek, Beaufort County, and had been visiting her children who lived in this neighborhood.
While visiting, she got sick and passed away. According to family lore, on her death bed she had but one request, not to be carried back across those rough roads back to Blounts Creek.
The family listened to her request and buried her in what is now the Stilley Family Cemetery, but was then the Dunn cemetery, her sister’s family.
While there are no Dunn names on markers in the Stilley Cemetery, when William Joyner Stilley was buried there in 1935, it was called the Dunn family cemetery. Since then it has been known as the Stilley Family Cemetery.
Holland’s husband, Augustus Harley Jones, died in 1884 and was buried in the Blounts Creek area, near their homeplace.
