The New Bern Tribune of 24 Apr 1936 reported, "Last rites for A.D. Toler, son of Rev. and Mrs. Duff Toler of Chocowinity, were held yesterday from Chocowinity Free Will Baptist church by Rev. J.C. Griffin of this city. Burial was at Washington.
     Toler was killed early Wednesday morning in an automobile truck collision near Chapel Hill, where he was employed as a barber.
     Four brothers and two sisters survive, and they are: Mrs. Pete Meekins and Mrs. Leslie Brily, and Charles, Ashley, Alton, and Reynolds Toler."¹
